ELA SBAC testing starts Thursday.
Remember to get a good night's sleep and to eat a healthy breakfast! Last week we started dividing multi-digit numbers by double digit numbers. Students have used ratio tables, number lines, and share out methods and are now working on using an array or area model to help them solve these problems. An example of this can be found below.
Some students will be coming home this week with an invitation to Dreambox. This is a homework assignment to help these students practice their math skills at home and at school. Students must log on and use the program for 30 minutes this week. If you do not have computer access, please e-mail me ASAP so that I can make other arrangements for your child to use this program. Thank you!
Reading Homework has changed slightly for this week:
Read at least 2 Read Works articles and answer the questions. Due MONDAY 2/5 (this will be assigned tomorrow)
* We have started our Nonfiction reading unit and will be focusing heavily on identifying main idea using various strategies over the course of the next week. Math: * Week #4 worksheet is due Friday * We are working on multiplying and dividing by powers of ten. * We are also working on reading and writing decimals in expanded, word and standard forms. Grades closed last Friday for Quarter 2. We started Quarter 3 today. The quarter ends next Friday.

Welcome back after a snowy long weekend!
Math: - We are starting a new unit this week, Unit 3: Place Value & Decimals. - The overview for this unit can be found on my math page on this site. - Students will start having weekly homework to practice various skills, not just skills found in this unit. Each week, they will have an opportunity to compare their homework answers with a partner and work to solve the problems they did not understand. Reading: - Students are finishing up their book club projects this week. - Friday we will visit the library for book talks and book selection. - Students will have an end of unit assessment on theme and author's craft next Monday. - Next week, we will start our next reading unit on nonfiction. - I will NOT be after school this Thursday.
